[YRP Students' Essays] Life is Hard

Life consists of many choices, which means we have to choose to live. Also, for every choice you make there are consequences. I agree with the phrase, "The difficulty in life is the choice" (George Moore, 1852-1933), because choosing something is very difficult for me when I do or decide something. It is good for people to choose from among many choices, but it is difficult sometimes. I am going to explain why I think that way.

Firstly, I will write about the story, "The Dog and the Wolf" (Learning About Law, Ohio State Bar Assoc.). There was a wolf who was nearly dead with hunger, and he was very thin, only bone and skin. He went walking to find food, then the dog found the wolf. The dog said, "I work regularly, and eat regularly, and you could do the same." The wolf thought the dog was right. However, the wolf needed freedom, and there would be no freedom. But there would be a place to sleep, enough food, and much more. So, the wolf could be healthier if he stayed with the dog. If I were the wolf, I would live with the dog even if there were no freedom because it is simple: I want to survive. However, the wolf chose not to live with the dog. Through this story, I realized that some choices can change people's lives.

Secondly, I want to tell you about my experience. I lived in India for three years because of my father's job. Actually, I did not want to go to India because India is not a developed country, and I did not have a nice image of it. Moreover, I was afraid to lose my Japanese friends. However, I love my father and worried about him living alone. There was an extremely difficult choice: whether to go to India or not. Finally, I decided to go to India. It was a wonderful experience, studying in the Indian international school, because I could make Indian friends, and my English ability got better. This was the first time for me to make an important decision in my life. I understood that it can be very hard to choose between two options.

Thirdly, I want to write about a different experience I had. I had an eating disorder before. In my case, it was anorexia. Anyway, it was very hard. Now, I am recovered. School was stressful, and I just wanted to be thin and skinny. I do not know why. I was confused. I used to choose not to eat. I was afraid to eat carbohydrates and fatty foods. Even now, I cannot eat a lot, but I can choose to eat. It was a very difficult choice for me.

In conclusion, our choices can lead to a life of happiness or the fall of an individual. We have to make a decision if it is difficult. Personally, for me it is more difficult to choose from just two options than to choose from among many options. There are too many choices in the world. Yet, always remember: it might be more interesting to choose something hard!
