Annual Child Science Conference 2009
The Sixth Conference of the Japanese Society of Child Science

The theme of the Sixth Conference of the Japanese Society of Child Science was "Children, Environment, and Brain Science." What is necessary for children's growth and development? A lively exchange ensued on various issues related to heredity and the environment, media and children, early education, play, and child-raising support.
Day 1 opened with a lecture by Dr. Kobayashi Noboru, Chair, Japanese Society of Child Science, on "Child-caring Design," and a keynote address by Professor Emerita Masuko Honda, Ochanomizu University on "A Time when Children are Shunned," followed by two symposia on "Thinking about Early Education Now" and "The Past, Present, and Future of Children and Games." On Day 2, public symposia on "What is High-Quality Child Care?" and "Toward Constructing a 'Reliable Information Environment' to Support Child-raising" was followed by a talk between Professor Kotaro Suzuki, Niigata University and Professor Nobuko Uchida, Ochanomizu University, which stressed the importance of proof based on evidence.
