CRN International Symposium 2000
The Child Care Paradox: Choices in Children's Development

- Support for Working Mothers by Learning from the NICHD Study of Early Child Care -

Child Research Net (CRN) hosted International Symposium 2000 on the theme "The Child Care Paradox: Choices in Children's Development." The focus of the symposium was the NICHD Study of Early Child Care by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) in the United States. Over the past ten years, the institute has been conducting follow-up studies on the relationship between child care experiences and characteristics and developmental outcomes in young children. Believing this research to be useful in considering child raising issues and early child care that supports working mothers, CRN opened this public symposium to a wide range of people engaged in child care, medicine, and research as well as parents and guardians.

The symposium featured speakers on the NICHD study as well as time for informal talks during lunch and a panel discussion. In this way, it aimed to serve as a forum for an exchange of views transcending disciplines and fields of specialty.
