Mr. Shimauchi was born in Saga City. He graduated from the Department of Western History from the faculty, Faculty of Literature at the University of Tokyo. In 1981, Mr. Shimauchi joined Fukutake Publishing Co., Ltd. (currently Benesse Corporation). After working in publishing and other departments, he is currently the director of the Benesse Educational Research Center. His fields of specialty are to examine the general problems in today's educational environment as well as to conduct periodic surveys to assess and analyze the educational environment. His publications include 100 Topics for Powerful Living, The Study of Children Quarterly (Vol. 14, 15), in addition to survey reports on various topics and other works.
