We hear many questions and concerns about using today's limited technology and the limitations of multimedia, and about the lack of bandwidth in schools and homes. People say that until the bandwidth problem is solved, nothing good can happen in kids' learning, especially with respect to the Internet. I think that in the future, much like in the present and the past: Mindwidth matters more than Bandwidth. What the Clickerati kids are doing with their technology, how they use it for stretching their own minds, how technology adds to their explorations of the world around them, and how it facilitates their self-expression and the development of their own ideas - that what's matters the most. The best multimedia technologies are like pencils for a young writer, like brushes and oils for a painter, sand and card-boards for an architect, or dolls, building blocks, beads and sticks for a 2 year-old child. To summarize, the Kids of the 90's are growing up with lots of new technologies and multimedia experiences around them. In this talk, I focused on trying to understand and define who are these kids who are growing up and learning with multimedia technologies. I tried to point out what is different and special about them, and - how to build the best multimedia learning experiences for them. I hope that this talk has been helpful for you to get to know the Clickerati a little better. For those of you that will be joining me on Saturday, I will be showing some of the things that MaMaMedia has developed to serve these kids. I can only hope that this short message will inspire you to take further steps in this direction. |
