| We are pleased to announce the publication of the Annual Report of Child Research Net FY2005. CRN Year Book 2005 is CRN's fifth annual report on our research activities during the fiscal year. Each issue every year has featured a dialogue between Dr. Noboru Koyabashi, Director, CRN, and a leading expert engaged in research in a field related to Child Science. These discussions on common child-related matters have been immensely popular and informative. In this issue, Prof. Yukio Baba, Chair, The Anthropological Society of Nippon, provides some fascinating insights into how anthropology has approached and understood children within its discipline. ...Bipedalism, the use of tools, large brain size, and language--these are some of the many characteristics that distinguish humans from other animals. They evolved in the course of human evolution over millions of years. The prolonged period of infancy under parental care may be an adaptation strategy that originated in the process of human evolution. Research in anthropology gives an important clue to understanding the nature of the child as an organismc Professor Baba is also Director of the Department of Anthropology at the National Science Museum in Tokyo and organized the exhibits on human evolution now housed in the new building of the museum. The discussion was held after a tour and explanation of these exhibits provided by Professor Baba. The report on CRN's research activities focuses on our efforts to build an understanding of Child Science in China, a project that was begun this fiscal year. Our trip to China in November 2004 took us to a number of institutes engaged in child research, and we launched our Chinese-language website in February 2005. This section also reports on conferences and study sessions jointly held with the Japanese Society of Child Science. For the first time this year, we have published a Chinese-language version of CRN Year Book 2005 with the hope that more people will come to know about CRN's research and exchanges. If you would like a copy of the report, please contact us at Questions and Comments to CRN and include your name, mailing address, and the number of reports you would like. Let's Talk! |
