Michitaka Hirose, Ph.D.

Dr. Hirose was born in 1954 in Kanagawa Prefecture. Professor Hirose graduated from the Industrial Machinery Engineering section of the Engineering Department, University of Tokyo in 1977, and completed his doctoral course at the University of Tokyo Graduate School in 1982. In the same year he was appointed a full-time lecturer in the Industrial Machinery Engineering section of the Engineering Department at the University of Tokyo, where he became an Assistant Professor in 1983. He became Assistant Professor in the Machine Information Engineering section of the Engineering Department at the University of Tokyo in 1991, and Assistant Professor at the Engineering Research Institute of the same department in 1996.

Dr. Hirose specializes in systems engineering and human interfaces targeting humans and computers (particularly virtual reality). His current interest lies in system design with a focus on virtual reality.

His major publications include What is Virtual Reality? (Diamond Co.), Birth of the Cybercity (PHP Research Center), How Closely Can Technology Approach Humans? (PHP Research Center), and Virtual Reality (Industrial Library).
