Decome

Place : Kyoto
Taken by : M H Doshisha International Junior/Senior High School)

These are the examples of decome. E-mails are colorfully decorated using templates, changing the color of the background or text, and adding animation and smilies.

A picture of a cake is inserted in this e-mail.
It says "I will buy you cake to show my appreciation."

Some decome Web sites are introduced in magazines with their QR code, which acts as a link to the Web site when we take a picture of the code with a cell phone.

These are special graphic characters called "decome e-moji".
These are used to help show emotions and illustrate things.

This is an example of animation showing how it will move.
Notice that the colors, places, and sizes are different.

Decome, which is pronounced "deh-koh-meh", is an abbreviated word for decoration mail. The three mobile companies name this service differently, DoCoMo calls it "deco-mail", au calls it "decoration mail", and Softbank calls it "arrange mail". It is a service which allows users to send HTML messages. That means they can decorate e-mail by changing the colors, fonts, and movement of the text. It is available on most new cell phones, and they can also be viewed on computers. Many teenagers download templates, animation, and e-moji from cell Web sites to make their e-mail cute and unique. They can also insert pictures that they have taken with their phone. Most users create deco-mail on special occasions like a friend's birthday.
