The Vending Machines

Place : Kyoto
Taken by : S. S.(Doshisha International Junior/Senior High School)

(Japanese drinking vending machines)
I always got excited to see vending machines all over the place in Japan when I was small. In foreign countries I barely found vending machines, and for me the vending machine was the best high technology that the inventor made.

(These are foreign vending machines)
There are vending machines in foreign countries, too. However they are not as popular as in Japan. This is because they are not that necessary in other countries. In some foreign countries such as Spain, the drinks are cheaper and more delicious if you buy them in bars and cafes. Also, in some countries people get jobs by selling drinks and foods, so if vending machines get popular people will lose jobs. The important thing is to keep control the number of vending machine so we can keep up human communications and save people’s jobs.

(The colour below the drinks exemplifies the temperature of that drink. Red = hot, Blue=cold)
In Japan there are vending machins everywhere and they are even developing. For example, the vending machine that can sell both hot and cold drinks in one machine.

There is vending machine that sells 'Oden' which is Japanese traditional food and you can eat it without cooking! It began form Akihabara that 'Otaku' people started eating Oden which they bought from vending machines and due to it's deliciousness it spread to many places in Japan.

You can buy 'Onigiri' from vending machines too!

If you do not like Japanese foods, then what about some French fries and a sandwich?

The vending machine refers to Japanese lifestyle. It exemplifies that Japanese people prefer to have drinks or meals as quick as possible, rather than going shopping or to have meals at restaurants. The developing of vending machines can be both good and bad. This is because using the machine will provide you more time to spend your own time. However, at the same time, using the vending machine can cause a lack of communication. As for me, I like vending machines for buying cold drinks in summer and hot drinks in winter so I can maintain my body temperature. However, I do not think there's need for meal vending machines because you can have better and healthier foods in restaurants or cafes. I think Japan should consider how to maintain the number of vending machines, otherwise in future Japanese people will definitely suffer from a lack of communication and nutrients.
