Mochi Pounding
Place : Tokyo
Taken by : Satomi and Yudai
Memo :

In Japan, we eat mochi (rice cake) on New Year's day. Why do we prepare mochi in winter? It's because of Japanese tradition. To pray for a long life, we have traditionally offered mochi to 'Toshigami,' the year god. After being offered to the god, mochi is usually baked or addded to soup. Then, we enjoy eating mochi.

How to Make Mochi? First, We Need to Boil Rice.

Wow, Boiled Rice is Ready.

We Put Boiled Rice in a Mortar and Pound with a Pestle.

The Pestle is Heavy for Me.

We Need to Pound Boiled Rice Again and Again.

The Rice is Becoming Glutinous!

Finally, Boiled Rice Has Become Rice Cake.

Cut Rice Cake into Small Pieces and Roll it into a Ball.

To Make Mochi is Fun.

Yummy!!
