The first Playshop was held in Tama city (Tokyo) in November 1999. The theme was "Let's Experience the Playful Spirit!" (Tokyo 1999). After that, Playshop took place in Yoshino (Nara prefecture) in June 2000 on the theme "Feel the Media" and in Nagoya (Aichi prefecture) on "Making Rope". Then we went on to do a Playshop event in Nagayama Chi-kichi on "Messages in the Snow" to commemorate the opening of this space in March 2001. In 2001, the third year of this project, we decided to create a Playshop prototype in Nagayama Chi-kichi. Monthly Playshops in 2001 are based on our experience and know-how over the past two years on the question: What conditions activate a playful spirit in children? We record detailed data on the children's behavior and the results of the analysis are reflected in the next workshop design. During the FY2001, from April, 2001 to March, 2002, Playshops were held in June, July, August, and December, 2001, and March, 2002.
