The theme of the Seventh Conference of the Japanese Society of Child Science was "Integrating Support for Children: Children at Risk." Environment, and Brain Science." How can specialists in diverse child-related fields such as education, medicine, health, and social welfare come together and focus their knowledge? The discussion focused on developmental disorders and child abuse.

Lectures were given by Sarah L. Friedman, Associate Director, Health Research & Policy, Institute for Public Research CNA, Virginia, USA, on "Child Care and Child Development"; Professor Yuzo Takagi, Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Tokyo Medical and Dental University, on "Dental Health and Child Development"; Professor Shigeru Watanabe, Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Meikai University School of Dentistry, on "Pediatric Dentistry and Child Science"; and Professor Mitsuko Inoue, Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Showa University School of Dentistry, on "How Dentistry Can Assist Children's Food Education." The symposium featured five sessions on the following topics: passive smoking, chaired by Professor Yuko Takahashi, Health Administration Center, Nara Women's University; developmental disorders, chaired by Dr. Mikio Hiraiwa, Rabbit Developmental Research; child abuse, chaired by Dr. Mahito Mine, Mine Children's Clinic; injury prevention in children, chaired by Dr. Tatsuhiro Yamanaka, Ryokuen Children's Clinic; and children and poverty, chaired by Makoto Kinoshita, Secretary-general of the Japanese Society of Child Science.
